Lisa Fortier
DVM, PhD, Dipl. ACVS.

Lisa is the James Law Professor Emeritus of Equine Surgery at Cornell University where, over the past 30 years, she has garnered an international reputation for her significant contributions in the areas of equine joint disease, cartilage biology, and regenerative medicine, particularly her pioneering use of biologics such as platelet rich plasma, bone marrow concentrate and stem cells in horses and humans.
In addition to her Cornell appointment, Dr. Fortier is editor-in-chief for the American Veterinary Medical Association’s journals and, in 2023, became the Chief Publications Officer for the AVMA. She also serves on the Horse racing Integrity and Safety Authority’s Racetrack Safety Standing Committee. In 2022, Dr. Fortier received the Kappa Delta Anne Doner Vaughn Award and was inducted into the University of Kentucky Equine Research Hall of Fame and in 2024 she was named an Honored Mentor by the ACVS, and most recently was bestowed the highest honor by the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the Frank J Milne State-of-the-Art Lecture for her pioneering work in translational biologics for musculoskeletal conditions.

Lisa enjoys playing piano and competing as an amateur in the hunter arena.
